Summary

We're talking all about the wild world of beauty hacks and skincare techniques on this episode of The Double Cleanse - what's actually useful and what's just viral clickbait! After opening with nostalgic stories about their school days (including a conspiracy theory about James inventing Cadbury's Dream chocolate bar), the twins dive into the modern beauty hack phenomenon. Are influencers really showing you groundbreaking techniques, or are they just making content look more interesting than it actually is? The twins are breaking down the difference between genuinely educational hacks – like colour correction tutorials that teach you colour theory – and the ridiculous "you're using this product WRONG" videos that are purely for entertainment. They're calling out the pressure on influencers to make everything seem revolutionary when really, you can just rub the damn product on your face. The key takeaway? If something is already working for you, ignore the hacks. of 10 years. Wow. Wow. You say that every time, every time. Wow. Ten years, really.

0:55.5

Ten years. Is that all that's been? And that all it's been. Sorry, did you have something you were going to say? No, I was going to say. It feels like it's been 10 years since we were last here. It does. Yeah, we've grown so much. We've been through many journeys. Yes. Can I start with something I'm really jealous of recently? So I was talking to my friend over the other week, and she has a daughter

0:57.6

who's in, I want to say year 10 or 11. What's GCSE? 10 and 11, like you're 10 and 11. Guess what her GCSE is now? What? Beauty. What? GCSC, like hair and makeup and males. Are you sure GCSE? GCSE. It's now a new GCSE option. So you can take beauty as your GCSE. And is that class as like one of the sciences? I don't know. Why would it be classes one of the science? They were just trying it in a few different schools and they were like, you know, you have to write as a letter. Why do you want to do this? She's a makeup artist, my friend. She's, that's her full-time job. So how great that her daughter's doing beauty. She already has, you know, her makeup archery business. I just wish in school, imagine being able to do, instead of having to do, I don't know, what did we do, I can't even remember what we did. Oh, graphic design. graphic design. We folded bits of card for a long time. Right, exactly. Which now we love packaging.

1:47.7

We love packaging. But imagine being able to do, just go straight into beauty. I know. How incredible would have that be. Do you know, I wish they pushed more, which I think is a relatively new thing though. We did something with the British Beauty Council about this. Yeah. How STEM can lead to beauty and the cosmetics industry. And not just being a makeup parts. I've been a content creator or being, you know, being involved in that world without having to beat on. For example, so interesting, like graphic design for certain things. Yeah. When we did graphic design, I wish we went more to the like the psychology of it. Yeah. I don't know if we've ever mentioned this on our podcast,

2:17.9

but we had a graphics design teacher who was like,

2:19.9

I just love packaging.

2:21.2

And we would laugh all the time.

2:22.6

But now we're like,

2:23.7

we just love packaging.

2:24.8

We get it.

2:25.4

We really get it.

2:26.4

We were like,

2:26.7

that sounds so boring,

2:27.6

but now it's so interesting.

2:28.6

We had to make soap boxes.

2:30.5

You remember,

2:30.8

we had design soap. And he was, I didn't know what to call my soap. So he was like, what have you called your soap? And I went, soap. So I couldn't make a better

2:39.9

name. So it's French for soap. It was French for soap. He was like, okay. Okay.

2:46.5

I don't think I mentioned this either. Yeah. I've mentioned it to you before because I really feel like there's a conspiracy against me.
