We're wired to believe that our view of world represents a passive observation of an objectively established reality. But the reality (heh heh) is, our minds are actively in the process of creating the world around us at all times. Our perception of the world -- and how we choose to frame it -- ultimately dictates our reality. When you don't understand this truth, it's easy to allow other people to frame your reality for you. This is what persuasion is, fundamentally. And it's one of the primary reasons that we communicate: to frame reality for the people around us. You need to understand how this works for two reasons: 1) To make sure that other people aren't influencing you without your consent 2) To make sure that you're influencing other people in the best ways possible The ability to influence is what distinguishes leaders from followers.
