Summary

Ruthie Polinsky and Clay Harbor break down the Bears’ back-and-forth loss to the 49ers, starting with a pick-six that set the tone and a scoring frenzy that saw the game tied five different times. They dive into the biggest takeaways from the performance, including defensive struggles, an offense that found its rhythm in San Francisco, and why the Bears ultimately couldn’t complete the comeback. The duo also hands out game balls and highlights the impact of rookies stepping up despite the loss. From there, the focus shifts to what still lies ahead. Ruthie and Clay take a closer look at the NFC playoff picture, how the Bears can secure the No. 2 seed, and what a potential first-round matchup with the Packers could mean. They also preview the season finale against the Lions, discuss how Ben Johnson may approach the final week, and wrap up with a “Wired In” segment and thoughts on what this performance signals going forward.

I'm Ruthie Pallensky back with Clay Harbor, and we have a lot to get to after that Sunday night football thriller in Santa Clara.

Clay Harbor, you took it all in. You had a late night, and you woke up this morning. You went on Molly and Ha, you gave your thoughts. And you've now had a little bit of the data process. We're going to talk about it all. We're going to break down the whole game. We're also going to look ahead, talk about this Detroit Lions game, what that could potentially mean. And also we'll take a look at some possible playoff seating and what that could mean. But Clay Harbor, the biggest takeaway, obviously, is that the Bears are no longer in play for that number one seed, which is disappointing, I think, for a lot of reasons, but that number two seed is still in play, and that's huge. Yeah, we don't need to look any further than last season when the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl. What seed do you think they were in the NFC, Ruthie? You tell me the team that drafted you. The number two seed, the number one seed, the Detroit Lions ended up losing their first game in the playoffs. So I think, yes, you wanted to have the number one seed. You wanted to have the buy, get a few of these guys healthy. But I think you get the two seed. You have a couple of home games on the schedule. Obviously, you take it one game at a time. Ben always tells us that one game at a time, the next step. But I think you're still in a good situation. If you can have teams come to Soldier Field, I think nobody wants to come here, especially in January with this home field advantage,

with the crowd, with the weather.

1:32.8

Especially when you look at those NFC West teams having to come play at Soldier Field.

1:36.6

Would be pretty interesting to see Matthew Stafford in a windy, cold soldier field,

which we'll get to.

1:42.2

I want to get into all that.

1:43.4

We'll break that down a little bit later.

Let's talk first of all about that game because, holy smokes, it starts right away with

the pick six.

First play of the game.

T.J. Edwards runs it back.

And I think you're thinking, oh, wow, like the Bears may be able to run away with this

one.

2:00.7

Not too long after Brock Purdy drives right on down the field, wow. Like the Bears may be able to run away with this one. Not too long after Brock Purdy drives right on down the field,

scores a touchdown for his team, and it's back and forth.

2:07.2

It's an incredible offensive showcase.

2:09.8

Not sure if the defense even really needed to be on the field for a while.

2:13.4

But what were your, let's start with the good and the offense

2:16.7

and what you learned about the bears and their ability to move the football and score points last night. All right, we'll start with the good. I think you started saying Brock Purdy, yeah, that that interception return was probably the only bad thing he did all night besides that attempt at the duggy. You know, that wasn't the best day. You thought it was great? I just,
