Russia's president Vladimir Putin made a surprise visit this weekend to the occupied Ukrainian city of Maripol.

Just a day after the international criminal court issued a warrant for Mr. Putin's arrest for alleged war crimes,

there he was driving himself around the city's streets.

This Kremlin-approved footage shows how Mr. Putin seized the war.

He started reclaiming Russian lands and Slavic peoples, rebuilding and reviving long gone empire.

There'll be more echoes of history starting today.
