Hi there! Welcome back to another episode of The Jasmine Star Show. My name is Katie, I'm the social curator, content manager, and I could not be more excited to share with you and ask me anything session that Jasmine hosted on Facebook Live just last week.

0:29.0

First, she started off with a training on how to beat the algorithm and get your post scene, and it was pretty amazing. Then, she gave incredible advice to business owners in all different industries, and in typical Jasmine fashion, she wasn't afraid to tell it like it is Owen needed. Ready to hear it? Let's dive on in.

Why hello friends, how are you? Welcome to another weekly chat. Today we're going to do something a little bit different and really focus on a topic that is near and dear to my heart. But first, I have a question. Do you want your post to be seen? Do you want your followers to engage? Do you want to start connecting with not just new followers, but followers who are primed to become customers, like Aka people who are not in your industry? Yes or no?

1:16.0

Let me know right now so we can drive home a point. So before we get there, I should probably outline based on my extensive experience of coaching over 25,000 business owners when it comes to starting a business in any industry.

1:29.0

The three patterns that I found is that there's common desires for business owners, business owners like you, I'm sure, want to be seen in the algorithm, get engagement from their followers, and then have the algorithm work for them.

1:44.0

Because the thing that I hear sometimes often from business owners are just like it just feels like the algorithms out to get me or I must be doing something wrong. And I am here to let you know that that is actually not the case. Here's what I actually do think needs to happen.

1:59.0

You need to overcome your struggles to achieve your desires. So the main struggles would be you have a hard time being consistent. You don't feel like you have enough time and you're often wondering what is the content that I post.

2:18.0

So three main desires, more followers, more engagement, and have those people turn into customers. But the three main struggles are I don't have enough time. I can't be consistent and I just have a really hard time knowing what to post.

2:31.0

Great. So then I'm going to repeat it again. You need to overcome your struggles to achieve your desires. Why? It's a cycle.

2:42.0

I have to just let you know that it's so important for you to be consistent. It's so important for you to make time and create content. You have to do this in order to get seen in the algorithm, get engagement, and then make sure that the algorithm has something to deliver to your followers.

Now, I know it probably can sound very annoying, but you're like, Jasmine, you don't get my life. You see, I'm a full-time student. I'm a single parent. I'm a week in warrior. This is my side hustle. Or I have three side hustles and I'm just trying to make them all work. I get that. That struggle is real. You're talking to a person who started off my career as a side hustle, who is iterated in my business.

3:23.0

The one that we all want is time. But we have to make sure that we understand the way that social media works so that then we're empowered to create content that our followers want to see. Here's why.

3:37.0

Social media platforms rely on behavior to create unique feeds. So what does this mean? It actually means that let's say you and I are sitting next to each other, right? And you bring out your phone and I bring out my phone.

3:54.0

Even if we could follow the same 100 accounts, we are going to see different posts based on how we interact. So let's say you and I are sitting next to each other and we're each following the same 100 Facebook pages or the same 100 YouTube accounts, the same 100 Instagram accounts.

4:15.0

Any platform that has an algorithm, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, any social platform that has an algorithm. If we were to follow the same 100 accounts, when I open the app and when you open the app, there's a high likelihood that we're not going to see the same content. Why?

4:33.0

You might be liking and engaging with let's just say yoga accounts and I might be engaging more with puppy memes. We could still follow the same accounts, but what we're going to see first is based on how we interact with those posts.

4:51.0

So if you're wondering, okay, but how does it really determine? Well, it's going to determine based on three factors. Now, these three factors that determine what your follower see, relationship, interest, and relevancy. Now, I don't want to geek out. I'm not going to get too specific, but I'm going to give this a little bit of a framework so that we can understand how each of these pieces of the algorithm will empower your posts and my post to get seen.

5:16.0

So we're going to break these young one by one. Three factors that determine what your follower see is the relationship. So what is the relationship? So relationship is determined by whether or not you and the other account follow each other. If you mutually follow each other, it's indicating to the algorithm that you might be close. If you are mutually tagging same accounts, it will indicate to the algorithm that you have a closer relationship.

5:44.0

If you're constantly engaging with accounts or accounts are constantly engaging with your account, it's indicating to the algorithm that there is a relationship. And why is this important? Because engagement creates relationship.

5:59.0

If your followers are liking, leaving a comment, tagging a friend, a saving a post, repurposing your post into their stories, if they're doing anything with their post, and you're responding to them, that is a great opportunity to indicate to the algorithm that that follower wants to see more of your content.

6:20.0

So the next time they log into the app, there's a higher likelihood of them seeing what you're posting. Cool. So then the main question becomes, how do you get followers to engage? And more than anything, I really like when we have conversations because I go back and I read the comments, I would love to know, like let's use this as a conversation.

6:41.0

How are you getting your followers to engage? Because if other people watch this and then they could read the comments, they too could start getting ideas. What would it look like for me to share my ideas and for you to share your ideas so that collectively wrong moving in the right direction?
