You are no doubt familiar with the Ten Commandments mentioned in Exodus chapter 31,

but can you guess how many commands are mentioned throughout the entire Old Testament?

Well, they're actually 613. When you see a list that long, it can beg the question,

how should we rank them? In fact, that was a popular question the early Pharisees had for Jesus.

In Matthew chapter 22, Jesus famously answered them,

that you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all of your soul and with

all of your mind. This is the great and first commandment. A second is like it. You shall love your

neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all of the law and the prophets.

It is that easy. Love God and love others. But why do we often try to make it so much more complicated?

Well, the theme of this meditation from John chapter 13 is a reflection on being satisfied

with showing love. Accepting Christ is our example of how to be known, being satisfied with living

our lives to love. So to begin, whether your eyes are just now opening to the hope of a new day,

or finally resting in the stillness of evening, accept this time as a gift of spiritual shelter.

Let the love you encounter in this time of divine surrender be satisfying to your soul. Allow your

eyes to close now without effort and permit your mind to center on the love of Christ. Consent to

be guided by love through the Holy Spirit and concede for your mind, body and soul to be quenched

and satisfied in the love of God.
