Love. It's life's great surprise.

But beyond that I know nothing about it.

Seriously. I've learned that there is no point in trying to understand it.

Why it will work for one couple and then the seemingly perfect duel they split apart.

No beyond me that I stop trying to guess or understand it.

You could chase the science. You could check out the brain chemistry, the serotonin, the melatonin levels, the dopamine, etc. etc.

But it wouldn't provide any perspective why a muscle bound jock will lock himself in his bedroom and spend a weekend making a mix tape of romantic songs from the 1980s.

Or why a chronically timid person will stand up in a crowded room filled with people and walk across it and introduce themselves to the person of their dreams.

This stuff is a mystery.

From my experience it is the most powerful emotion, more powerful than even survival instinct.

It can be simultaneously obsessively drawing us in and making us terrified of it.
