Even a dog that is usually gentle and would not kill another animal will change his behavior if he starts running with a pack of dogs.

The natural desire to seek the approval of others can be a good thing.

But it can also be a bad thing because it can cause people to make bad decisions

whenever they start seeking the approval of those living, sinful lives.

It can destroy and lead you down the road that will cause you to harm others,

or can even land you in jail or in the grave.

The difference between the scornful and the godly has to do with roots.

And what it warns us is that scorn dries up the roots of life.

This is true in salvation and relationship with God. If you're a scorner, I warn you,

you're going to dry up the life, the spiritual life of your relationship of God. Through the years,

it fascinates me when people announce that they have to find another church because they're not being fed.

Really?

Weren't you the one who, numbers of times years ago,

used to say how much you were being fed?

What happened?

Scorn dried up the roots.

You killed the roots.

No wonder you're getting nothing out of the sermons. But this is true in human

relationships like marriage. Scorn kills love in marriage. There's a professor at the University

of Washington, John Gottman. He videotapes married couples as they talk. He says in 15 minutes of watching a couple talk to each other,

he can predict with 90% accuracy
