Believe it or not, there was once a time when you had to leave your house to rent a movie.

I know, I know, sounds bizarre. You would go to your local video store, you would browse the racks for what seemed like hours for a movie that you wanted to watch, and then you would take it home and you would watch it on your VCR, video cassette recorder.

For some of you that may not be familiar.

Now, before you could watch the movie, you had to rewind it.

This was because the person who rented the movie before you probably didn't have the courtesy

to rewind it themselves.

So if you wanted to avoid having the ending spoiled,

you had to rewind the tape yourself. Thankfully, we now live in a world where we can rent movies

online and watch them from our computers or televisions or phones even. But the hashtag before

hashtags ever existed was, are you ready for this? Do you remember? Be kind, rewind. Be kind, rewind. It's a slogan that stayed with me since the video store days. If your life were a movie on a VHS tape, I'm sure you wouldn't tape over it, especially

we had like some really bad, long-forgotten episodes like the real world.

But would you really want to tape over your life and do things differently if you could?

Be kind. Be kind when you rewind and reflect on

your movie, your past. Even if you wish you could tape over it with a totally new life, like when

it's late at night and you're tossing and turning, you're wide awake, and in the movie of your life

rewind in your head, and you think, oh no, I said something embarrassing five years ago,

and now I can't stop replaying it. There's no need to rewind and tape over the movie of your life.

Even if that embarrassing moment that you can't stop thinking about really wasn't your

finest moment, it's okay, we've all had those.

The movie of your life is already good.
