Summary

You have to be careful who you let represent your organization.

I didn't learn this lesson soon enough.

I'm not talking about someone who got fired from your team and started talking shit online about the company and you.

They'll do that, but think about things this way:

You hire a sales person who is absolutely manipulative.

Guess what?

When they train your new sales people, they'll train them to be the same.

You have to rank people based on what they are.

Are they a 5 or a 7?

Maybe they're a 10.

Who you put in leadership positions will be the representatives of your organization.

Whomever you put in that place, there's a trickle down effect.

Go for 10s.

The way you find 10s is to establish metrics and KPIs that represent excellence.

Hire those people and let them do their work.

Make sure they represent the core values and mission of your company above and beyond your expectations.

And watch your company thrive on autopilot.

0:34.3

that maybe they go on social media after they no longer work there

0:37.5

and say crazy stuff or maybe they get into it with a client and things get escalated and it

0:41.7

puts your company in hot water. I'm not talking about those things, although those are important

and happen as well. But what I'm talking about is if you go hire a sales manager that's weak,

0:52.0

then he or she is going to go hire a staff that is weak,

0:55.9

because strong people won't follow a weak leader. If you have a salesperson that's manipulative

1:01.5

and that's how they close sales, then they're only going to sell to easily manipulated people.

1:07.5

They're only going to attract and be able to close people that they can manipulate,

which typically aren't top tier people. So I never thought of it this way. I always looked at business

as, okay, this guy, I can make them better. This chick, I can improve her. I can make her better.

1:20.7

I can coach them. I can get them up. And yes, you can. You can take someone that is an absolute zero and turn them into a five or six,
