Now I invite you to turn with me to Luke chapter 17 as we continue our studies in Luke's gospel.

0:55.7

We read from the first verse. Jesus said to his disciples, things that cause people to sin are

1:02.2

bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. It would be better for him to be

1:08.6

thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck

1:11.9

than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. So watch yourselves. If your brother's

1:19.0

sins rebuke him and if he repents, forgive him. If he sins against you seven times in a day

1:47.6

had a servant ploughing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant, when he comes in from the

1:52.9

field, come along now and sit down to eat? Would he not rather say, prepare my supper, get yourself

1:59.0

ready and wait on me while I eat and drink. After that,

2:02.3

you may eat and drink. Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do?

2:10.1

So you also, when you've done everything you were told to do, should say, we are unworthy servants.

2:25.6

We have only done our duty. Amen. At the beginning of chapter 12, as Jesus began to speak to his disciples in front of a great crowd of people that had become

2:33.0

as large as thousands, enough for them to be

2:36.1

trampling on one another. He had issued a warning for them to be on their guard against what

2:42.2

he referred to as the yeast of the Pharisees. This, he said, was actually hypocrisy. By the time

2:50.0

you get to the 20th chapter, he is pointing out again that these Pharisees
