I was working in a coffee shop in Boston to like help pay rent while I was training for

the trials and so people kept joking they're like oh yeah she just took a two-hour coffee

break and went and ran the Olympic trials bare at that.

In BBC OS conversations we bring people together to share their experiences and this time

it's a conversation on the fires in Hawaii.

It is the deadliest wildfire in the United States in more than a century.

As emergency and recovery efforts on the island of Maui continue, we bring together a woman

who lost her family home and two volunteers helping to get vital supplies to those affected

by the disaster.

In recent weeks we've witnessed the devastation caused by wildfires across parts of Europe,

North America and North Africa.

Our focus today though is the archipelago in the Pacific Ocean more than 3,000 kilometers

from the U.S. mainland and specifically the seaside town of Lahaina on the northwest coast

of Maui, home to around 12,000 people with historic buildings, restaurants, hotels, beautiful

beaches.

It was one of the island's most popular tourist destinations.

Block after block of the town lies in ruins just the twisted wreckage of buildings and
