Broadcaster Jon Gaunt interviews Chris Middleton, the man behind the viral anti-Keir Starmer song “Freezing This Christmas” – a parody of Mud’s “Lonely This Christmas”.

The track became a political hit, helped drive a campaign to reverse winter fuel cuts… and got Chris sacked from BBC Newcastle.

In this explosive interview, Chris reveals: - Why he made the song and the reaction it sparked

How BBC bosses pushed political bias and silenced dissent - Insider stories from BBC Newcastle and BBC London - Why he believes the BBC has no place in modern broadcasting - The truth about coverage on migrant hotels, climate change, and right-wing demonstrations

Jon shares his own BBC London experience, where he says left-wing bias soared after 9/11 and 7/7. Together, they discuss freedom of speech, the chilling impact of the UK’s new Online Safety Act, and how the BBC, Ofcom, and the political establishment stifle independent journalism.

📌 Topics Covered: BBC bias, BBC scandal, Keir Starmer criticism, Freezing This Christmas, online safety act, free speech debate, UK politics, media censorship.

If you care about free speech, independent media, and hearing the truth the mainstream won’t tell you – watch this interview in full.

0:08.7

You probably say, who the else he?

0:10.2

Well, I was like that myself.

0:11.4

But if I said to you, he's the guy who did the Mood song about Stama, then you know him straight away.

0:17.3

He's also now saying some really interesting things ever since you got the sack

0:21.7

or did he walkout of BBC Newcastle. And I think he's an interesting new voice in the whole

0:28.7

platform of independent broadcasters. And he's got a lot to say about BBC bias. A lot of what

0:36.5

I've been saying for many, many years and often felt like a

0:39.9

lone voice. So I'm delighted to say, welcome now to the John Gorn Show, Chris Middleton. Hello, Chris.

0:47.9

Hi, John. Thanks for having me. Anytime. Listen, tell me about, let's talk about the song first.

0:53.7

I thought it was great, mainly because

0:55.5

I loved mud when I was a kid. But where did you get the idea from to do a charity single?

1:01.6

Well, I actually got the idea originally on X. I saw just a random comment from someone basically

1:06.8

saying that we should, someone should do a Christmas single to raise money for the pensioners

1:10.7

because they're going to be cold this Christmas because the government is cutting the winter fuel

allowance. Let's raise some money for pensioners. And funnily enough, lonely this Christmas by

1:19.3

mud has always been my favourite Christmas song. Everyone thinks that's a bit weird because it's

1:24.0

kind of a depressing song, but I always just enjoyed singing the chorus like

1:28.1

I always found it really really fun so that I love all of the bass player Rob who had the

1:32.8

flares I always say and the flares got bigger and bigger and bigger until eventually he was wearing a

dress and we all think we didn't realize and of course he became carlie minogue's producer so
