This is the start of new season,

where we'll be exploring all things clans, crofts and calis,

focusing particularly on Highland culture, because that's where we are

and that's what we know. Yes it is. For our first episode in the series, we're going to take a look

at the Battle of Colloden, a massive turning point for the Highlands and the clan way of life,

and also just a very important battle

from a European and worldwide perspective. Colodin really does matter.

The Battle of Collodon is world famous. It was the last pitched battle fought on British soil.

So the last battle that had a predetermined time and place,

like round the back of the school at 4.30, or out on this boggy field in the Highlands at 11am

on the 16th of April 1746. And it's on this day, 275 years ago, that the course of Scottish

history was drastically changed.

Colloden Battlefield is situated in the north-east of Scotland.

It's just down the road from where I am in Inverness, about five or six miles to the east.

And it attracts a lot of tourism.
