Within NATO, for example, the United States still accounts for 70% of total defense spending

in among NATO states.

Where if you then look at what does the United States spend directly on European security,

which is what NATO is meant to be concerned with, or your Atlantic security, it is pretty

clear that that percentage of US spending directly invested in Europe is actually just a

fraction of that.

We estimate it to be around 6%, or less than 6% of total US spending.

Give you a slightly different measure of the burden sharing debate or a different angle

on the burden sharing debate if you look at it from that angle.

So there's some interesting things going on, but there's clearly also a bit of regional

variation.
