Summary

Surprise! Weekend episode :-D Every piece of code you write is either going to be for computer-to-computer interaction, or for human-machine interaction. For the latter, how do you make your interface easy to understand and use? Erik Kennedy, independent UX/UI designer, dives into user interface (UI) design. We cover the best tools for making quick prototypes, common design mistakes, and his journey from software engineer to freelance designer. This episode is a great way to get excited about design and has plenty of resources for first-time designers. Check out the show notes for details! about, and it's a really big field design, and even just UI design, it's always been on

made a few crappy UIs just to get past something.

But I didn't start there.

Like I actually started from a dev background back in the day.

I really hadn't programmed it all until I got to college.

And then freshman year, very first semester, there was an intro to programming course,

1:20.2

and I tried it, and I loved it so much that I ended up switching my major over to software engineering

and doing some internships as a dev. But basically, I mean, I kind of drifted my way from there. Like, I really liked developing, but the thing I liked about programming was just doing these little side projects where you kind of like thought of an idea. You like cranked it out. You know, you worked until 3 a.m. It was just you. You didn't need anyone else's permission. You didn't need anyone else's approval. You just, you could turn whatever you were thinking of into a reality. And I love that. But then, um, doing a couple developer internships, I was like, man, this is, it's a little more like industrial scale than I thought. And it just wasn't quite the same. So I eventually shifted over to PM.
