Welcome to the Sports Motivation podcast. It's your host, Nees Showbo. Today is another episode of bars, and today I'm breaking down a book. This is one of my favorite books. I have several copies around the house. It's called The Art of Living, and it's by Epictetus. Actually, it's a book that's of Epictetus's work that's been translated in a certain way. And the book is called

0:24.1

Art of Living. It's powerful. Now, Epictetus is a stoic philosopher. One of my favorites. There's a few

0:32.2

very popular ones. I'm sure you guys probably heard of Seneca, Marcus Aurelius. I'm a fan of Epictetus.

0:38.7

I love how practical he is and he speaks, or at least his knowledge and wisdom has been

0:45.0

translated in such a way that it's super duper practical.

0:49.2

1:28.9

1:34.1

going to say about something that I said. Yes, I have people who do say things about something

1:40.0

that I said and then a lot of times I imagine it. I think that somebody's going to say something.

1:46.0

And then we walk around overly sensitive to other people's opinions and giving them extra weight.

1:52.8

All right. So this excerpt speaks to that very, very powerfully. So let me dive in.

2:00.3

So he says this, if someone treats you disrespectfully

2:04.6

or speaks unkindly about you, remember that he or she does so from their impression that it is

2:11.0

right to do so. It is unrealistic to expect that this person sees you as you see yourself. If another person reaches

2:19.5

conclusions based on false impressions, he or she is the one hurt rather than you, because it is
