Today is another episode of bars.

That's why I break down lyrics from rap songs, excerpts from books, clips from interviews, anything that I consider a straight bar, which to me represents real knowledge, real game, something that's

of value. And today I'm breaking down a song, and it's not a hip hop song. It's actually an

R&B song, and it was referred to me by a good friend of mine, and it couldn't have come at a

better time.

You've heard me talk about, I mean, you guys know at this point, you know, I don't really,

I try not to hide my pain too much because my pain bleeds all through this podcast.

You know, I grew up not getting what I needed as a youngster, felt, you know, neglected, abandoned and such.

I won't have to go, I don't have to go through too much detail.

I'm sure all of us have been through some degree of that.

And what I learned was the value of self-reliance.

Now, what that turned into is sometimes an inability to trust, a reluctance to trust other people and, you know, relying on myself to such a degree that I feel alone, lonely.

And so while self-reliance and independence and control is beautiful, and that's what I preach through and through, you still have to find a way to deal with that part of yourself that

is telling yourself that you can't trust anyone and that you're alone. Because the reality is you're not alone.
