Hello Ralph, how you doing today?

Good Steve, we've got a great program today. We do on the show today. We are going to be talking to John R. MacArthur, the president of Harper's magazine and an expert on so-called free trade deals.

A lot of that stuff is coming up in the next few weeks.

He's going to give us an update on the battle in Congress

over the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

But first, we're going to talk about real war, the kind with bullets and bombs and our first guest. Well, let me say this first. We live in a country now where we seem to be in a state of perpetual war that is conducted by an all-volunteer army meaning most of us

don't have to bear any of the burdens and it seems that the hawkish among our

politicians are the ones who have never seen war, the most hawkish.

Which brings us to our first guest.

Barry Laidendorf is the president of an organization called Veterans for Peace,

which is a global network of military veterans and allies who work to build a culture

of peace by using their experiences to educate the public about the enormous costs of war.

They advocate for dismantling the war economy and they provide

services that assist veterans and victims of war. We are honored to welcome to

the show the president of Veterans for Pease,
