I'm the host Scott Feinberg and my guest today is an incredibly talented and

fascinating guy who is nominated for the best director and best adapted screenplay Oscars for his work on a semi

autobiographical film that is nominated for the best picture Oscar and that has firmly

established him as one of the most respected and wanted directors in Hollywood.

I'm talking about Moonlight's Barry Jenkins.

Whatever happens at the Oscars, Jenkins, who's 37, has had a hell of an award season.

Moonlight, the story of a young man growing up black and gay in Miami, is only the second feature he's ever directed after 2008's highly acclaimed and under seen

medicine for melancholy. Moonlight was unveiled over Labor Day weekend at the

Telluride Film Festival, a place near and dear to Jenkins heart for reasons we discuss, and it was greeted from its very first screening with massive acclaim. It continued to gain momentum as the season went along, ending 2016 as the year's best reviewed film, with a 98% favorable rating

on Rodden Tomatoes.com.

And now, as the season winds down, we can report that Jenkins was chosen as the year's best director by the National

Society of Film Critics, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the New York Film Critics

Circle, and the National Board of Review, and was nominated for that distinction by the Director's Guild of America

and both Golden Globes and Critics Choice Voters.
