How does a rifle go from shooting 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards to sub-M-O-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A groups? Or, conversely, from shooting half-M-O-A-A-W-A-WA groups to random haphazard 2 inch groups on the target. Well there can be a lot of reasons, but one of the most common, and thankfully, one we can control is barrel break-in and barrel

maintenance. Now I've had a lot of listeners questions about barrel break-in and

related topics recently. questions about.

So that's what this episode is going to be all about.

And I also want to share some cool questions from listeners along with some answers. So I first became

really aware of the critical, the potentially critical nature of barrel, break-in, and barrel maintenance at an event at the

FTW Ranch, also known as the Sam Shooting School, S-A-A-M in Texas. It's one of the premier long-range training schools in the nation.

I was there for a pre-launch event when Ruger was preparing to introduce the RPRger Precision Rifle to the public.

Now this rifle went on to become a phenomenon.

It was an amazing combination of really outstanding design elements that offered potential purchasers a rifle entirely capable of

competing into the top echelon's in what was then a fairly new sport PRS shooting

precision rifle series shooting for under Sport, PRS shooting, Precision Rifle Series shooting, for 1,200 bucks.

I sat there and looked at this rifle that they set in front of me through the seminar and just admired it. I was darn

impressed. Each of the writers there was issued a brand spanking new rifle never fired to go and shoot for several days with.

We went out that afternoon and sighted him in and the RPR that I had been issued right away went to shooting tiny clusters on the

hundred yard target. We were shooting a Hornity match load with a 140 grain ELD match type bullet. And man, I could sometimes cover

three shots with like my fingernail that small right we got our rifles all zero real well we went out and worked him out on a long range just to do trajectory validation,

create some range cards, and so forth.

Continually more and more impressed with this rifle, which by the way is still being built.

It's an outstanding choice for getting into long-range precision shooting.
