Summary

GS#351 October 2, 2012 Chances are you’ve heard something about the USGA and PGA’s program to speed up the pace of play and make the game more fun for everyone called “Tee It Forward”. Chances are one of the thousands of courses that are participating in the program is near you. But what exactly is Tee It Forward? Well, you’ll be surprised to learn that it’s not just about playing the front tees to embarrass yourself in front of your friends. Barney Adams, entrepreneur, club maker, and founder of Adams Golf came up with this idea and convinced the PGA and USGA of its merit. This is part 1 of 2 in which Barney explains that it’s a really good idea, despite it’s name. In part 2 for Members Only, Fred pushes Barney for more of an explanation and tries to come up with a better name. http://www.playgolfamerica.com/index.cfm?action=teeitforward Terry Koehler of SCOR Golf answers Steve Xintas request to explain bounce. Because we used his question, Steve received a free custom fit SCOR 4161 Money Club (wedge).Follow @golfsmarter on Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube for daily highlights and helpful insights from our interviews on the podcast. In my time on the first tea and talking to people on trying to promote this just on an individual basis, guess where the most complaints have come from?

0:38.6

Women. Absolutely. Oh, you're kidding. Absolutely. I was just going to be as like outrageously silly.

0:43.4

I know. That's what I mean. That's the outrageous answer. I mean, I've had them go up one side of me and down the other, dress me down, about wanting to move the tease up so more women could enjoy the game. And yet, what's the big movement by the PGA of America? The great untapped resource for more golfers is women. Okay. Let's have

1:00.5

them play from the equivalent of 7,400 yards. Guess what'll happen? They'll be slow,

1:05.9

they won't have any fun, and they'll quit. Literally, annually for 30 years, I've heard that the great influx of golfers

1:12.2

were going to be women. It has never happened. One starts, one quits. I mean, women aren't stupid

1:17.5

for heaven's sakes. Maybe if we made the game a little more amenable to them on course,

1:22.7

maybe they'd stick around for a while. What happens at clubs is the good women players

Well, thank you for having me on. And thank you. We're doing Skype. You and I are looking at each other,

1:59.4

and you've just entered a whole new world, haven't you? Yes, I have. I'm very uncomfortable. This is like leaving the country or something here for me. You are in a different part of the country. You're actually in a different part of the planet right now. Yes, yes. I'm in that. I did a story one time on the Internet. I went viral and I had to look it up to see what it meant. So that's where I am. What was the story? That was the original Tiet Forward story. Oh, really? And it went viral and you're like, what does that mean? People kept asking you say, hey, your story went viral. And I thought it was a disease. I didn't know what it was. There was something wrong with it. Well, welcome to Skype. Thank you. And so now, and to make you even more uncomfortable, we're looking at one another. Yes. I'm looking down. I'm not looking at you. It doesn't mean. I'm looking at my shoes. Well, we could. I know. I know, actually.
