Let me just say at the outset here, I'm not a fan. I've never believed in the arts as a competitive sport.

I appreciate the purpose behind them to single out works of excellence in their various fields.

But I just don't know how to take excellent movies and make one placed above the rest.

I've had various works of mine up for Emmys but never attended the Emmy Awards

and never watched the show.

It's a kind of performance art that is just not something I can get worked up about.

I'd rather leave that to the racetrack.

However, I must say, it's a nice feeling to get awards and put them on the mantle, which of course contradicts everything I just said.

Though I don't make them, I do enjoy various year-end lists of favorite movies.

It's often where I hear about movies about which I might otherwise have remained ignorant.
