So Rebecca, I got a bunch of emails from patrons that we can read on the air and answer, what do you say?

0:06.2

I'm all in.

0:09.4

Anonymous patron says, I just recently started seeing a therapist for the first time in my life.

0:14.6

I've only had two sessions and I'm finding it very difficult to decide if this therapist isn't

0:20.6

right for me or if she's just telling me things I don't want to hear. I went to her because I've

0:27.6

hit rock bottom with anxiety and depression and I want to learn coping mechanisms.

0:32.5

But my second session when I was explaining how hurt I felt when my family doesn't actively

0:37.5

want to do things with me, she pretty much told me that maybe I'm just not a pleasure to be around.

0:43.6

I left extremely upset and cried all evening because I hate most everything about myself.

0:49.1

I don't want to go back to her because I felt the session was more hurtful than helpful,

0:53.7

but how do I make the determination between that or maybe she is right and I just don't want to see

0:59.9

1:14.0

I'd want to check in with them and say as a client and say it sounded like what you were saying was

1:21.9

that I'm fowl to be around and that's why I don't have any friends. Is that right?

1:29.8

Because I've often had people come back to me and say, here's what you said to me and I'm like,

1:34.3

like let's spend a little bit more time exploring that. Right, because what the anonymous

1:39.2

patron is saying is the therapist saying, well maybe your family doesn't want to do things with you

1:47.7

because you're just not a pleasure to be around. Or the therapist said something else that

1:56.6

was intended to mean something else, but just came across that way, that kind of thing.

2:01.5

Because it'd be weird for a therapist to just think that and say it, wouldn't you say it when you

2:07.5

think? Yeah, I only when I have a very long history with a client will I call people out on the
