A year before Surhout was arrested, the filmmaker Zeberiah Newman climbed out of his car in the parking garage of Serhat's clinic.

In the dim light he spotted his friend Jeffrey Drew waiting for him.

Jeffrey was about to undergo yet another blood draw at Serhat's clinic.

It had been almost two years since Jeffrey started his HIV trial, had been getting his blood drawn regularly,

and each time he was told that his HIV levels were undetectable.

The experimental treatment seemed to be working.
