Summary

The Lakers were able to get Anthony Davis going, but the Jazz's shot making combined with more 3rd quarter struggles to sink the Lakers and drop them to 2-8 on the season. Pete and Darius discuss the game vs. the Jazz, focusing on how a game like that one might affect morale and the longer term implications of a team with bigger goals, but that hasn't yet been able to find its footing. Then later, the guys discuss how small tweaks in lineups and the potential returns of Thomas Bryant and Dennis Schröder can positively impact the team.

What do you think about the Laker team now?

0:03.4

You follow the box scores of the games every day?

0:06.0

Just the Lakers.

0:07.3

You're kidding.

0:08.6

That is really a compliment.

0:12.8

I was pleased to see you smile at the top bar show because once the game starts, you have a game face.

0:17.8

You don't smile much out there.

0:20.4

I don't think you have to do things for money anymore. Correct. What's up, Laker fans? Welcome to the Laker Filmroom podcast, brought you by the Blue Wire Podcast Network. I'm Pete, joined by Darius. And yesterday, we had a pod about unlocking Anthony Davis. And that's something that we saw in the Utah game. LeBron James was out.

Lonnie Walker was out.

Ady had 29 points on 11 of 18 shooting.

But the Lakers gave up 139 points D to the Utah Jazz to fall to 2 and 8 on the year.

0:49.8

And that 2 and 8 and this game right here, for me at least, represents the end of kind of phase two of the season so far.

0:58.0

Phase one was training camp and then the preseason.

1:00.9

And then the first 10 games, I know this is something that some coaches adhere to, some coaches don't.

1:07.2

But it's not necessarily from Darbin's perspective.

2:01.6

These first 10 games, the Lakers, when you looked at the schedule, it was like, ooh, Lakers have a pretty rough schedule to start the season. And then Utah, out of nowhere is good. They're the number one seat in the Western Conference at 9 and 3. And so a couple of the games, right? A couple of the games in there that we thought like, hey, it got two against Utah, a couple chances to get cheap ones. It's different circumstances. And then, you know, teams like Golden State and the Clippers are playing well below, I think, where we think they'll end up specifically in the Golden State's case, but they'll never have a hard time getting up for the Lakers, right? So between talented teams and teams that are playing well, you looked at the first part of the schedule. Like, ooh, Lakers kind of have a rough road ahead of them. But two and eight, D, two and eight is rough. The Lakers have taken their lumps. I'm very curious about the morale of the team. A lot of times we will zoom in on the X's nose and things like that. But giving up a buck 39 is something that I think is indicative

2:05.8

of a level of spirit that I've seen diminish over the last few games. And I'd love to get into

2:11.0

that. And just in general, Dee, where's your head at after the game in Utah? So I start to drift

2:15.8

towards what people around the team are saying, right?

2:18.1

And so Darwin was, I think, a little bit defiant in his media availability after the game.

2:26.7

Comments like they didn't bring me here to lose, we're not going to continue to lose.

2:30.9

We're going to turn a corner.
