is it possible to be too generous at Christmas?

Every year, my husband and I host Christmas Eve for both our families.

That can get big.

I cook, clean, decorate wrap gifts, and try to make it magical.

My husband's contribution is usually saying things like,

wow, the house looks great while watching football. This year, I asked him to help by picking up

stocking stuffers for everyone. Instead, he decided to quote, simplify Christmas and bought one

giant Costco tin of popcorn to share amongst all the stockings.

Cheese flavor for grandma, caramel for the kids, and plain for, I guess, whoever loses.

When I said, that feels a little lazy, he accused me of commercializing Christmas.

Oh, boy.

And said the real spirit of the holiday is togetherness not materialism

Meanwhile he somehow found the time to buy himself a brand new girl as a Christmas gift from the family

Now it's a week before Christmas. I'm exhausted the popcorn tin is already half empty and my husband is walking around humming carols like he's solved world peace.

Am I the Grinch for wanting individual stocking stuffers or is he the a-hole?

You know what you could do. Should do. Get rid of the stockings. Yeah. Like you're already doing all the presents. And you know you can't count on this guy to help you. You know who you marry. And let's say the end of the deal. You know who you married. Right. So don't expect him to all of a sudden, like, understand what to do and buy for people. Like, I do think the expectation for him to do this is unreasonable because, again, you know who he. But he doesn't do anything else. Well, that's who she married. That's his deal. Well, tell him no... Look, problem solved. Tell him no stockings this year. And the reason why is because you didn't get any stocking stuffers and I have all this other stuff to do.
