The old football field was silent, bathed in moonlight.

The rusted goalposts cast long, jagged shadows over the overgrown grass as Gabriela

stepped cautiously onto the field.

She was back in town after years away and had wandered onto her old

high school campus during an after-dinner walk. A chill ran along her skin. Looking around

at the empty bleachers with paint peeling off the wood, Gabriella recalled the ghost stories

that used to be told among the

students. For a moment, she wondered nervously, were any of those old legends about this place true?

Up on the dark hillside, the hulking silhouette of the abandoned school loomed against the night sky.

A window on the second floor glowed faintly with an amber light.

Gabriella's breath caught in her throat as she saw movement in that window.

A small ball of light slowly glided down the hallway behind the glass, only to then flicker and vanish.

Gabriela took a step back onto the field, heart pounding in her ears.

Suddenly, she heard a crash.

In the distance, a metal door slammed open.

She whipped her head around toward the noise.

Her pulse raced as she scanned the field and bleachers,

eyes straining in the dark.

There was nothing, nothing but an empty rotten grandstand and shadows swaying.

The night suddenly felt heavier, pressing in around her.

Then she saw movement at the edge of the field.

Gabriela narrowed her eyes at the far corner near the old equipment shed.
