where the key question of the morning will no

doubt involve face masks, but I sort of found myself wondering about other scientific issues

at the moment, whereby we kind of forget that a lot of this stuff begins in mainstream media.

in a couple of national newspapers or magazines if you want to claim that from the perspective

of having got a degree in history 20 years ago, you know more about the world of science and associated matters

than the most qualified people in the world. Sorry if I sound a little bit distracted. I've got a

minor technological problem. In the studio at the moment, I can't hear myself, which means I'm not

entirely sure that you can hear me, but I'm sure you can. There'd be a national uproar, there we go. A national uproar if you couldn't. There'd be, I'm back, I'm back in my own ear. What a strange thing to take comfort from the fact that I could hear my own voice in my own ear. They say I love the sound of my own voice, and I often refute this, I often dispute this claim But there I just was getting incredibly discombobulated That I couldn't hear the sound of my own voice in my own ear Anyway, everybody's back, should we start again and relax? where I had to remind myself this morning

that both MMR and climate science denial

began not in the outer reaches of the internet.

It's tempting sometimes to think that the current madness

is all linked to Facebook algorithms and dodgy Russian

missions and various other manipulations. But long before, long before social media sought to

attribute equal value to your wrong opinions and my fact-based evidence, long before it turned everything upside down,

these two issues from which for my money so much stems.

I've told you this before.

I'm not going to apologise for repeating myself because it's fair to say that the lessons

of MMR vaccines and climate science denial have not yet been fully learned,
