Summary

Hank Hanegraaff believes that the following conversation with Noelle Mering is one of the most important podcasts he has ever recorded. Most people view woke ideology as a political or social movement, but Mering is convinced that it is a demonically motivated movement that takes partial truths and totalizes them while making God the ultimate oppressor. She wrote Awake, Not Woke: A Christian Response to the Cult of Progressive Ideology as an effort to shed clarity on a movement that operates in confusion and like a trojan horse has manipulated many well-meaning Christians with ideological suppositions that are not only incompatible with but completely counter to Christianity. In short, the advocates of this progressive ideology will increasingly demand allegiance to their cause and Christians must be equipped to recognize and counter the claims of woke ideology by deepening their understanding of what is true and leaning on the historic foundations of the Church.

0:34.0

And today will not be a disappointment.

0:37.1

This is one of the most important podcasts I have

0:41.1

ever done. I think this goes to the essence of civilization. I've often said that the foundation

0:48.3

of civilization is life. And then you can build on that foundation. There are three main pillars, the pillar of church and government and marriage.

0:58.5

But this gets to an even more granular issue, the issue of what it means to be human.

1:06.5

And my guest today discusses this as poignantly and powerfully as anyone who has ever addressed

1:16.1

the subject. That is my personal fervent opinion. You know, Carl Marx once said that

1:24.2

religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature. It's the heart of a heartless

1:31.4

world. It is the soul of soulless conditions. And then he said the abolition of religion as the

1:41.2

illusory happiness of the people is to call on them to give up a condition

1:49.0

that requires illusions. The criticism of religion is therefore in embryo, the criticism

1:57.7

of that veil of tears, of which religion is the halo. Again, that's Karl Marx.

2:08.3

He's talking about what he envisioned the fall of Western civilization, much like the fall of the Roman Empire.

2:19.9

And let me just say as prologue to introducing my guess that we failed to stand when marriage was being redefined.

2:30.5

We capitulated.

2:32.8

We dare not fail with respect to the cult of wokeism.

2:40.6

And that is the subject for today's Hank Unplugged.

2:45.2

My guest is Noel Maring.

2:48.4

She holds an M.A. in philosophy.

2:54.7

She is a fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington, D.C. She writes on culture, politics, religion. And she's the co-author

3:02.8

of Theology of Home. But to the point of this podcast, she is also the author of Awake,
