Allies of Donald Trump have largely come to his defense after the former president published a post on truth social yesterday,

claiming without any evidence that the

Manhattan District Attorney is planning to arrest him in this coming week Tuesday and calling

on his supporters to protest.

Trump's post vaguely mentions, quote, illegal leaks as the source of his information, but

Trump's own spokesman has clarified that, that they have not actually been notified

by any authorities of an impending arrest. But nonetheless, in the 24 hours since Trump made this

claim, key Republican figures like House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and South Carolina Senator

Lindsey Graham, they have all echoed Trump's accusation that the Manhattan DA's investigation

is politically motivated. Speaker McCarthy has even gone further, saying that he would use his

powers to investigate something which actually has not happened. Even Trump's former vice president

Mike Pence, a potential 2024 candidate who was targeted by the insurrectionist mob that

stormed the Capitol on January the 6th fell in line with that talking point and said that he doesn't

think this is what Americans want. Watch. It just feels like a politically charged prosecution here.

And I, for my part, I just feel like it's just not what the American people want to see.

I believe that people understand that if they give voice to this, if this occurs on Tuesday,

that they need to do so peacefully and in a

lawful manner.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office, which is investigating Trump's role in the hush

money payment made to Stormy Daniels back in 2016, declined to comment yesterday on Trump's

claims or his calls for protest.
