This summer, if I can call it that, has been a summer of two halves.

Here in the South East, where I live near Wisley Gardens, it's been remarkably wet, one of the wettest summers I can remember.

But elsewhere in the country, it's been dry.

Our team at RHS Bridgewater, for example, have had most unusual weather for the northwest.

In my garden, some things have done really, really well, like runner beans and cauliflowers

that just love a gorgeous bit of summer rain. On the other hand, things that love sunshine like sweet corn

and my bedding plants have not done so well,

and my potatoes and tomatoes have suffered from blight.

But that's the way it is in gardening.
