They'd only been there for two weeks, and he'd yet to be invited over for dinner.

He saw the pair coming and going, but that was the extent of his interactions with them.

So, he didn't think much of it when laid on Christmas Eve 1891.

He heard sounds of metal banging on metal coming from their home.

It almost sounded as if someone was working on the plumbing.

He explained it away as simple housework, despite the strange hour.

For all he knew, they'd had a surprise plumbing problem.

It barely registered as important until early March, when Speding saw detectives arrive at the now abandoned house.

And the body of the young woman, covered in concrete debris, emerged from within.
