Here in Cambridge will be bringing you the latest science news, including how scientists

can predict whether groundwater is contaminated with arsenic and what effects does sugar have on our

willpower.

Meanwhile here in Australia we meet the dolphins that live in the river in the centre of a city, we find out how DNA technology is preventing

birds hitting aeroplanes, and how to educate kids who live a thousand miles from school.

1:26.4

news that's hit the headlines this week. So Ginny, what have you got for us?

1:36.0

So researchers thought that willpower was something that got used up,

1:40.0

so after you'd done a difficult task task it got harder to do another difficult

1:45.1

task and that you could reinstate your willpower by having some sugar, some

1:49.6

glucose but actually they've now found that this is only the case for people who think that

1:55.2

willpower is a finite resource. So if you think that your willpower will get used up,

2:00.7

it will and then sugar will give you a boost. But if you believe that willpower

2:05.1

is maybe like a muscle that gets stronger when you exercise it so actually you feel

2:09.0

invigorated after a difficult task, then you don't need the sugar and you can carry on at that pace.
