In this episode, Robert Llewellyn sits down with Feann Torr from @carsales to unpack the electric vehicle revolution transforming Australia. From BYD and MG to Tesla and Hyundai, they discuss how Chinese automakers are shaking up the industry and driving EVs to become the most affordable option on the market.
Feann shares his insights into the rapid rise of EV interest — growing from 30% to 37% of Australian car buyers — and explains how China has become the country's third-largest source of car imports. They also discuss how Chinese EVs are winning the price war, the psychological shift that's making electric cars feel like "just another car" to new buyers, and why the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is converting even the most loyal V8 fans. \
Finally, Feann and Robert couldn't help but get just a little excited about the groundbreaking potential of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology and what it could mean for an energy-independent Australia.

| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to the Everything Electric podcast. |
| 0:10.0 | Pretty clear over the last few years that electric sales have increased around the world. |
| 0:18.0 | Wherever they are on sale, it's absolutely not universal. |
| 0:22.7 | There's plenty of countries that have either very few or no electric cars. |
| 0:26.4 | But the ones that do, those numbers are constantly increasing. |
| 0:30.3 | And it's really fascinating to follow this around the world. |
| 0:33.1 | It's not uniform. |
| 0:34.5 | Some countries are advancing very quickly. |
| 0:36.3 | The obvious ones being Norway, where they're now |
| 0:38.9 | over 90, I think it's over 95% of all new cars sold in Norway are electric. And their percentage |
| 0:45.7 | of their electric fleet is just ridiculous. China, a very close second, which is a colossal market. |
| 0:52.1 | I mean, Norway is very small. China is mind boggling. The amount |
| 0:55.7 | they're selling millions of electric cars every month. Literally, I'm not making that up. That is |
| 1:02.6 | an actual fact. This country, the UK, the market is still growing at a very healthy rate, |
| 1:09.5 | even that was actually gone up a bit |
| 1:10.9 | because there's now some government grants for some cars. |
| 1:14.7 | There's, I think, a general state of anxiety and pessimism around the world regarding |
| 1:19.3 | just everything, just regarding this survival prospects of the human race. |
| 1:24.4 | But if you focus, if you put your big blinkers on and just look at |
| 1:28.9 | electric ground transport, it is growing, which is fantastic and really important. And it does |
| 1:33.7 | make a difference. And the amount of oil we are burning every day is reducing. It's by infinitesimally |
| 1:40.1 | small amounts, but it is now measurable. And I like to look at other countries around the world. |
