Hello and welcome to the tennis podcast. It is day two of the Australian Open. We are nearly Catherine Whitaker through the first round and it has been pretty exciting so far, isn't it?

It's been sensation exciting. I think I saw pretty much the most exciting set of tennis I've ever witnessed live yesterday.

When I was playing. No, it was not. It was when Ternasi Cokanakis was playing the Australian flag barrier. He seems to have sort of ripped that flag from Nick Curios.

Even though Nick Curios won in five sets yesterday as well, somehow that was eclipsed by Ternasi Cokanakis.

What's with his dress sense? Did you see what he got on? I had to wear my sunglasses to watch him luminous yellow, pink, orange. I wouldn't have got one afterwards, obviously.

The youth can get away with that sort of thing, David, can't they? What are you saying about me?

I'm saying if you're 19 and you've got a tan, you're in safe territory. I'm not saying anything about your appearance. I'm just saying...

So 41 and pale white, doesn't it? It translucent as Andy Roddick once called you.

Hello Leon. Hello there. How are you doing? Pretty good. Since I'm good things, some alright things, so generally speaking pretty good.

And today you have obviously had a lot of British players to watch. The good news is that they were in the main draw.

Karl Edmund fighting his way through the qualifying rounds for the first time to reach the Grand Sam tournament. James Ward in the Grand Sam tournament on his ranking.

Those are good things. The results didn't go their way today, but what was your assessment of what you saw?

It always feels disappointing when the guys lose, but you take a step back and when I look over the last three, four, five years have been doing the Davis Cup role where you go to the slams, you watch the players.

There's not been many players to watch, so it's been actually really positive this time round in Australia to see.

Leon Brody made last round of qualities and has made some significant improvements in his game. He's very hungry, he's got a lot of desire.

I think we'll see more from him. It was great seeing Kyle navigate his way through qualifying.

People said that the draw was kind, but you still got to win those matches plus a new experience. Plus it was good having a match against an Aussie on a fairly big core when he played Papagia.

And to come through 9-7-3rd, that was a big, big plus. And then with James Ward sneaking in obviously to the main draw on ranking as it is a good feeling for him.

He showed today against Vardasco. A lot of similar to what we saw against Roberto and Paris actually. Some of the sort of level he really put it out there on the court today.
