Summary

Audi has finally confirmed it will come into Formula 1, but has it set too ambitious a timeline to be successful?

That's one of the questions we ask in another edition of The Race F1 Podcast, recorded on the day Audi made its F1 plans official at Spa.

Scott Mitchell-Malm joins Edd Straw to question their very public expectations to be successful within three years, and to fill in the gaps where Audi was a little more reticent about its plans - notably what is going on with its widely-anticipated acquisition of the Sauber team.

We also delve into how the project will work, why it's independent from that of sister company Porsche and what it is that makes this project uniquely Audi.

bedroom in our accommodation. Audi's entry as an engine supplier was announced this morning,

0:43.8

that's for 2026. No great surprise. This has been expected since the next generation power unit

0:48.8

regulations were confirmed. It was quite a strange press conference though, wasn't it?

0:53.1

Although there was some detail of how they were going about it,

0:56.6

there's no mention of a pretty important element,

0:59.0

which is the expect to take over the Salbertine.

1:02.2

Yeah, as we sit here now, which is Friday evening,

1:06.6

our place is just outside Malmody.

1:10.2

That press conference feels an age ago at this point.

And by the time people listen to this, I guess the press conference,

1:16.9

it still have been within 24 hours, but it was an early start to go there.

1:22.9

So there was two representatives from Audi.

1:26.6

There was, I'm going to butcher these pronunciations, but Marcus Duesman, who is the,

1:30.1

basically the CEO of Audi, and then I think Oliver Hoffman, who is the chief technical

1:36.3

officer of Audi.

1:38.4

So hopefully I've not destroyed their names or completely misquoted their job titles.
