Summary

Welcome to The Auburn Podcast, your daily Auburn sports podcast presented by Auburn Undercover and hosted by Zac Blackerby. On the show Monday, Blackerby is joined by Painter Sharpless of ESPN 106.7 to discuss Auburn landing no players on the SEC first team preseason poll from SEC Media Days. With Jarrett Stidham and Derrick Brown landing on the second team, Blackerby tries to reason with the SEC media voters. Use the following time marks to navigate the podcast: Start of the show: Blackerby and Sharpless discuss the first, second, and third team units and the guys point out that the Drew Lock hype may have gotten out of hand with him placing over Stidham. 6-minute mark: Blackerby lists Auburn wide receiver Ryan Davis as a second team option on the preseason poll and the guys understand why he was placed there despite hauling in 84 catches in 2017. 10-minute mark: They guys look at the defensive side of the ball and try to reason why Brown was listed with the second team unit. The guys ponder the point that since Auburn’s defensive line is getting so much attention and praise throughout the country, it seems that it is devaluing the individual defensive players. While this is not fair, it has been seen before and is also happening at other schools in the county right now. 12-minute mark: The conversation shifts to the linebackers and the defensive backs. Blackerby praises the SEC media for giving Jamel Dean the credit he is due and is surprised that Javaris Davis ends up making the list. End of the show: Blackerby and Sharpless discuss Nick Coe and question if he had made the list if he was in a similar situation at Alabama. Looking at past evidence, he probably would.
