We want to talk today to step a little bit out of the news cycle,

but talk about a story that we read recently, USA Today partnering with Arizona or public.

I don't know what they did. They used computers.

What they did was they used some pretty impressive computer technology.

You can read a whole long article on USA Today about how it worked to basically look at thousands

of thousands of bills that have been introduced over the past eight years.

And look at state legislatures.

So not here in Congress, but out across the country.

And what they did is they found about 10,000 bills that were essentially copies of model legislation.

This is legislation that think tanks that industry groups right up,

and then they pass out to busy state legislators saying,

hey, it'd be a good idea if you sponsor this for reasons x, y, and z.

They found about two thirds of those came from either conservative groups or industry groups.

There were some from liberal groups as well.

And 2,000 of them passed. 2,000 of them have become laws that are on the books in the states that we all live in.

And one of the things that we've known for a while that this model legislation exists.
