Summary
Many athletes fail to make progress or they see their fitness regress due to three main factors:
- You become injured
- You are training improperly
- You’ve simply lost the desire to train, or train like you used to
Dr. Stephen Gangemi, the Sock Doc, joins The Nation to discuss the science behind motivation. From your brain to your gut, we will discuss the physiological and mental aspects of motivation and how you can regain the Eye of the Tiger!

| 0:00.0 | You know, we are grateful to have Tailwind Nutrition help us produce podcasts. |
| 0:11.2 | And today we have Josh Specter, who just finished the Brazil 135, and he used Tailwind on |
| 0:20.3 | that 135. |
| 0:21.8 | What Tailwind tip do you have for us, Josh? |
| 0:24.0 | You know, I think the biggest thing for these races, especially ones that are in hot and |
| 0:30.2 | are humid conditions, is just being sure to drink early and to drink often. |

| 0:48.6 | and make sure and keep drinking throughout the whole race, even if you're not thinking |
| 0:51.8 | about it, or even if you're not thinking about it, because if you don't, you're going |
| 0:56.1 | to pay for it later. |
| 0:57.8 | You know, one thing that you've told us before, Josh, is that on these longer races, like |

| 1:09.7 | You also subsidize those calories with other types of calories, is that correct? |
| 1:16.1 | That's right. |
| 1:17.3 | Yeah, I found that for me, liquid calories are great. |
| 1:21.4 | Work great for me for a good chunk of my calories, and my stomach calories, I'm well, |
| 1:26.9 | and they give me good energy. |
| 1:28.5 | But I find that in 100 mile races, or definitely in the 135, I needed some more solid food. |
| 1:36.1 | I assume it's probably partly psychological, but just to make that stomach feel a little |
| 1:41.9 | bit more full. |
| 1:42.9 | I don't think the scientists have figured everything out yet, but that's true. |
