Again, the title of this sermon is at the well again.

I really believe that's where our church has been.

God asks us to go again to this well.

To watch Jesus, to watch his interaction,

to watch how he handles the social constructs and dynamics and bigotry and racism and bias

that no doubt the culture he was in was experiencing in extreme ways.

Jesus goes a little well, says in John chapter 4 verse 1,

soon the news reached the Jewish religious leaders

known as the Pharisees that Jesus was drawing greater crowds

of followers coming to be baptized than John.

Jesus heard what was being said and abruptly left.

He left Judea and returned to the province of Galilee.

Look at what verse 4, it's written actually in an imperative form,

it says, and he, Jesus, had to pass through Samaritan territory.

He had to pass through Samaritan territory.

Sufficient to say there is not a lot of scripture that says much about Jesus

having to do anything. But here it says about Jesus he had to go through Samaritan

territory. Of course the social significance of this is incredible.

The territory known as the Samaritan territory was completely and utterly avoided by the Jewish people

in which Jesus is a Jewish male.

Furthermore, the Jews believe the Samaritans to be half-breeds.
