Hey, good morning. I'm Zaki Hamid. It's Thursday, and this is Seattle Now. Over the last

year, tariffs drove down traffic at the port of Seattle. For hundreds of dock workers, there is no

longer enough work to go around.

We'll learn more about how the port is doing and what it means for the wider Washington

economy in a minute.

But first, let's get you cut up.

The fight over natural gas is before the state Supreme Court today.

In 2024, Washington voters passed an initiative to roll back the state's efforts to phase out natural gas.

Opponents sued, and a lower court found the ballot measure was unconstitutional because it didn't stick to

a single subject. Now the state Supreme Court will decide. Oral arguments begin at 9.30 this morning.

A new payroll tax is on the agenda for state lawmakers today. Seattle Democrat Sean Scott

wants to impose a 5% payroll tax

on salaries above $176,000. Scott says it would bring in more than $2 billion a year.

Republicans have already come out against it, saying it will drive businesses out of the state.

Today's hearing begins at 1.30.

Also in Olympia, hundreds are expected to rally at the state capital this afternoon in support of immigrants in Washington state.
