Today the amateur traveler talks about a

457 mile journey over unpaved roads from Dawson City, Yukon, to the shores of the Arctic

Ocean as we ride the Dempster Highway. Welcome to the amateur traveler.

Let's talk about this road in Northern Canada.

I'd like to welcome to the show Lisa from the hot flashpacker.com who has come to

And where is the Dempster Highway?

Let's put it on a map here first.

So in Canada, it starts in Yukon, a little ways away from Dawson City and it goes north almost 550 miles up through

Yukon and then northwest territories and the road eventually ends in a town called Tuk Toyuktuk Northwest Territories which is right on the Arctic Ocean the Beauford Sea.

And I'm gonna guess from the name of Tuktoyuktuk, that it is a predominantly indigenous people city.

That's correct. Okay. Just a wild stab in the dark there. Okay.

Excellent. And why should someone drive? We're talking about a road trip in this particular case the Dempster Highway.
