Summary

The Amateur Traveler talks to Andrew Hickey of TheBrooklynNomad.com about his home town. Andrew gives us reasons to visit this borough of New York City next time we are in town from some of the neighborhoods like DUMBO, Williamsburg, GreenPoint, Brownsville, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Bay Ridge to Prospect Park and Coney Island. The second largest of the New York Boroughs offers good pizza and Italian food for sure, but Andrew will also direct us to a local chocolatier, coffee houses, ice cream parlors and of course Nathan’s Famous hotdogs. Along the way we will visit the Brooklyn Museum, mention where the American War of Independence nearly ended (badly) and ride the classic Coney Island Cyclone. Learn more about your ad choices. Amateur Traveler episode 270. Today the Amateur Traveler episode 270. Today the amateur traveler talks about parks, pizza, and

0:17.3

Coney Island as we go to Brooklyn, New York. Welcome to the amateur traveler. I'm your host Chris Christensen. Before we get

0:36.8

into this week's interview, I do have three news stories for you. The first

0:41.3

new story is Trip Advisor, which happens to be my day job by the way, did a survey about family travel and one of the interesting things I thought that I saw in there is that 31% of people surveyed would shell out additional money to

0:56.2

sit in a child-free section of an airplane. So it'll be interesting to see if

1:00.3

some airline takes them up on that. And then speaking of surveys, Four Square did a study on the rudest cities in the world.

1:07.0

And their winning city is Manchester, UK, followed by El Paso, Texas, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bloomington, Indiana, and Riverside, California.

1:16.8

And the way they determine that is based on the percentage of curse words used in check-in recommendations posted to the Four Square Service.

1:26.3

And then I'm sure many of you have been following what's been going on Egypt.

1:29.4

Egypt, now that it has calmed down a bit, trying to get tourists back and certainly for many

1:33.6

of you and it's too soon but one of the things that's interesting is that some of the

1:38.6

rates for Egypt are being cut by as much as 50%.

1:42.6

So at least for someone, it may be time to go back to Egypt.

1:46.4
