Summary

The Amateur Traveler talks to Melody who has been living as an exchange student in Hong Kong. Melody tells us what to see in Hong Kong from the very western feeling Central neighborhood of Hong Kong island, the peak and the mid-level escalators to the more Chinese neighborhoods in Kowloon and the less populated New Territories. She also takes us out to some of the outlying islands like Lantau island with the Big Buddha & Po Lin Monastery, Cheung Chau Island with its famous bun festival, and the nearly uninhabited Po Toi island.We talk about the 10,000 Buddha Monastery and eat dinner on plastic stools in the middle of the Temple street night market. 0:39.0	the first one in the mess that was caused by the Icelandic volcano that was grounding all the flights in Europe,
0:47.0	you may have heard that Ryanair basically decided that they were not going to follow the rules
0:52.0	and put people up in hotels and all of those things. they were required to do by European law. They've just been fined three million
0:59.6	euros or about 3.17 million dollars.
1:02.5	Notice those numbers are getting closer than they used to be.
1:05.1	An Italian agency found that in 178 cases they did not receive the mandatory assistance
1:11.0	such as food, drink, and lodging during the flight shutdown.
1:14.8	I can't say that I found it surprising either that Ryanair wouldn't do that or that they would
1:19.0	be fined.
1:20.2	But in a story that is surprising, if you go to Australia, you might want to be careful what you have on your laptop.
1:26.8	Apparently, Australian customs officials have been given new powers to search incoming travelers, laptops, and mobile phones for pornography.
1:34.0	According to a spokesperson from the Australian sex industry known as the Australian
1:39.2	Sex Party, not going there. So if that happens to be something that you have on your laptop
1:47.6	you might want to think about someplace else other than Australia. And the third
