Mysteries of the Solar System, Part 1.

Welcome to Astronomycast, our weekly facts based during through the cosmos, where we help you understand not only what we know, but how we know what we know.

My name is Fraser Cain, I'm the publisher of University Today and with me is Dr. Pamela Gaea, professor, Southern Illinois University Eversville.

Hi Pamela, how are you doing?

I'm doing well Fraser, how are you doing?

I'm doing great. So this week, but we know a lot about our solar system and there's an awful lot that's a complete and total mystery.

And today we're going to begin a series of unknown length examining some of these mysteries and explain the best theories that astronomers have so far.

So I think that one of the problems that we do is that we kind of come up with an idea for a show and we have a schedule and I'm often rushing Pamela to kind of meet the schedule, meet the time.

Well, I'm not going to be times slave anymore. So I have no, we have no idea how, how many parts series this is going to be could be a one part series.

But, you know, more likely no, it'll probably stretch on further, but it's so cool.

And, and you know what's kind of interesting is now I'm kind of going off on tangent, sorry, is my daughter is studying space in astronomy in her school.

And I'm going to come in and give a presentation to a class that is essentially the podcast we're going to do today, which is a collection of crazy mysteries in the solar system and the best ideas that we have.

But I get to show pictures to the class and you just have to use your imaginations or fall along the web as you go.

So let's get on with it. These are big mysteries in the solar system.

In some cases, astronomers have some idea we're talking about other cases, no idea.

So should we start with the pioneer anomaly?

Let's go ahead and start with that. It's kind of the oldest in the mysteries, I think.

Alright, let's do it. So in case you weren't aware, there is a weird situation where the pioneer spacecraft aren't where they're supposed to be.
