Summary

In episode 258 of the podcast astrologer Diana Rose Harper joins the show to talk about her work in using natal astrology as a form of radical-self care. This discussion was based on a talk that Diana gave at the Northwest Astrological Conference last month titled Fierce Compassion: Natal Astrology as Radical Self-Care. Radical self-care is a way of thinking about self-care that goes beyond the most surface level of self-care that most people think of when they hear that term today. The focus is getting at the causes or the roots of why certain forms of self-care are required in this day and age. This involves digging into the things that influence our sensation of worthiness as well as our judgement of other people's worthiness in our lives and in society in general as well. Within this context, self-care that is not only about you, but also about the world around you, and provides a structure to help support individuals in being the good people they aspire to be, in a way that is more foundational and enduring. This episode expands on some themes discussed in episode 19 of the podcast with Ben Dykes, titled Objective Versus Subjective Reality in Astrology. Later in the episode Diana and I spend some time going through the 12 houses to consider each of them within the context of radical self-care. astrology of radical self-care. Hey Diana, welcome to the show.

0:18.6

Hey Chris, it's great to be here.

0:20.5

Yeah, thanks for joining me. So the genesis of this episode is that you gave a talk on this topic at the Northwest Astrology

0:28.6

conference last month that I saw that I really liked. So I wanted to have you on to talk about this topic and sort of get into the details of it.

0:38.0

Could we, is there like a short description maybe of what we're going to be getting in today that you could sort of explain for those

0:45.8

questioning whether or not they want to listen to this episode? Yeah totally so

0:50.9

radical self-care is a is is a way of thinking about self-care that goes beyond the most surface

0:58.0

level like markety kind of versions of self-care that exist in the world right now.

1:03.2

So this is, you know, it's an approach, it's a mindset,

1:07.8

and it's a way of getting at sort of the causes or the roots of why certain forms of self-care are required in this day and age and like really digging into especially the things that influence our sensation of worthiness as well as our judgment of other people's worthiness as well.

1:30.0

So it ends up being self-care that is not only actually about you, it's also about the world

1:37.5

around you in a way that I think can really support people in like being the good people that they aspire to be in a more foundational and enduring and kind of, I don't know, deeply stable way if that makes any sense.

1:55.0

Yeah, totally. That makes complete sense. Thank you.

1:58.5

That was like a actually super and way more concise definition than I could have pulled off and that was one of the things I loved

2:04.8

about your talk is that you never take anything for granted and you are always very careful to define

2:09.6

your terms ahead of time. So maybe in order to start, since it's your first time on the

2:16.0

podcast and just to introduce you to the audience, I often ask people like

2:20.0

what their background is in astrology or what their sort of journey with it has been up till now?

2:24.8

Yeah, so my real first introduction to astrology was when I was a kid I think as is true for a lot of people.
