Obedience is doing exactly what I'm told to do, when I'm told to do it, with the right heart attitude.

Nancy's in day two of a five-day series called Obedience, the Acid Test of Love.

Sometimes you think your child might have broken a rule, but you're not quite sure.

They knew what you expected, but you can't quite prove whether they disobeyed or not.

Children have a way of trying to push the limits.

Well, we do the same with our Heavenly Father, but when we obey completely, it is joyful and restful. Here's Nancy to explain.

Let me ask you to turn in your Bible to the Gospel of Matthew chapter 8. I want us to look at an account that gives a great description of the meaning of obedience.

What is obedience?

And here's a great picture in Matthew chapter 8, beginning in verse 5.

When Jesus entered Copernum, a centurion, that's a Roman soldier who was responsible for a hundred soldiers,

Centurion came forward to him, appealing to him.

Lord, my servant is lying, paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.

And Jesus said to him, I will come and heal him.

But the centurion replied, Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof,

but only say the word and my servant will be healed. And here's the description of obedience.

For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, go. And he goes.

And to another, come, and he comes. And to my servant, do this, and he does it.

That's a great definition of obedience. I say to one, go, and he goes. I say to another, come,

and he comes. And to my servant, do this, and he does it.

Scripture says, when Jesus heard this, verse 10, he marveled and said to those who followed him,
