Before we start, we're talking about assisted dying today,

so there are references to distressing physical suffering, suicide and death.

This week the UK may have begun one of the most significant social changes in recent memory.

It's literally a matter of life and death and at this point everything rests on the shoulders of one MP,

Kim Ledbeater, whose private members built on assisted dying may soon become law.

This is a huge issue and I do feel the pressure of that but

actually why are we in politics why am I in politics I want to try and help people and

I want to change things for the better. This week's episode begins with our interview with Hurt. But is Parliament

really equipped to make such a huge decision? And what if it's sooner or later opens the way to the

kind of legalized euthanasia that a lot of people fear. I'm John Harris and you're listening to

Assisted dying it seems to me is a really complicated issue and I'm not sure that the way this country does politics is well suited to it.

It's too rushed there isn't enough room for deep thought.
