Campaigners gathered at the House of Commons in London earlier this month.

They want changes in the way asylum seekers coming to Britain are treated.

You are in here. You've been tortured. You will run away.

You are not okay upstairs.

And you are telling you you can be decided in ten days.

They are not right.

But few members of parliament were on hand to listen to them.

Britain, like much of the rest of Europe, has got steadily tougher on asylum seekers over the past decade.

Partly because the government believes that many of those applying are actually economic migrants

and because of a hardening in public attitudes towards asylum and immigration.

But some believe the pendulum has now swung too far against asylum seekers.

It's a system that looks wonderful on paper.

Oh yes, this is how we identify the vulnerable. This is how we facilitate their release.

But it's designed to defeat itself.

She told me that if it was up to her, she'd take them all outside and shoot them.
